You are here: What is an in service date?
An in service date is the date an inventory item was placed in service, or made available, for use. When you receive new inventory, this defaults to the current date. This date is used to calculate depreciation on your serial inventory.
For example, you have purchased several new machines for your training areas. The machines arrived in June and you received them into your inventory. Before the machines can be used, they must first be installed in an area that is being remodeled. The remodeled area isn't complete and the new machines are not installed until October. The in service date is October, when they are installed, and the depreciation of those machines begins in October.
